Job Responsibilities of Long Haul Truck Driver
- Operate and maintain Class A/Z tractor-trailers, transporting goods across various distances (local, provincial, national, and international)
- Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety
- Load and secure cargo, following proper procedures
- Maintain accurate trip records, including hours of service, fuel consumption, and cargo information
- Communicate effectively with dispatch and other drivers
- Uphold company safety standards and regulations
Qualifications needed as a Long Haul Truck Driver
- Valid Class A or Z Driver’s License (AZ preferred) with Air Brakes Endorsement
- Clean driving record
- Experience in long-haul transportation (an asset)
- Excellent knowledge of transportation regulations and documentation (e.g., bills of lading, trip reports, inspection reports)
- Ability to operate GPS and other navigation equipment
- Willingness to travel extensively, including cross-border and internationally
- Strong physical health and stamina for a demanding role
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliability, time management, and a commitment to safety

Responsibilities
- Arrange travel, related itineraries, and make reservations
- Load and unload goods
- Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials
- Oversee the condition of the vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage, and other equipment
- Perform brake adjustments
- Perform pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections and oversee all aspects of the vehicle
- Perform preventive maintenance
- Receive and relay information to central dispatch
- Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled, and fuel consumption
- Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo
Credentials
